Papua New Guinea: Total Enters Two Significant Gas Discoveries

in the Asia-Pacific Region

Paris, December 6, 2013 – Total today announces the signature of a farm-in agreement with InterOil Corporation that gives it a 61.3% interest in Petroleum Retention License (PRL) 15 in Papua New Guinea. The Elk and Antelope gas fields, two of the biggest finds in the Asia-Pacific region in recent years, were discovered in the license in 2006 and 2009 respectively.

Total and InterOil Corporation retain the flexibility to farm-down an aggregate of up to a 19.3% interest (before any election by the government to exercise its option to join the project with a 22.5% interest) to a strategic partner.

The common objective of Total, who will operate the project, and InterOil, is to complete the delineation of the two discoveries and to continue to explore for new resources in the license area. Depending on the results, this could lead to a final investment decision by 2016 for the development of the fields and the construction of a liquefaction plant located onshore on the Gulf of Papua.

In addition, Total has an option to take an interest in Petroleum Prospecting Licenses PPL 236, PPL 237 and PPL 238 in the same area.

“Following Total’s entry into exploration in Papua New Guinea in 2012, this new acquisition of an interest in significant discovered resources is an exciting opportunity for Total to develop a new gas production and liquefaction hub in the Asia-Pacific region, where gas demand is very dynamic”, stated Yves-Louis Darricarrère, President Upstream at Total. “Total will leverage its technology and experience in major LNG projects to reinforce its long-term production post-2020.”

Total will pay $470 million for a 42% interest (32.5% if the government executes its option to join the project) with a contingent payment estimated by Total at approximately $590 million. The transaction remains subject to the approval of the Papua New Guinea government.

Total in Papua New Guinea

In October 2012, Total acquired from Oil Search Limited a 40% stake in the PPL 234 and PPL 244 offshore permits, 50% in the PRL 10 offshore permit and an option for 35% in the PPL 338 and PPL 339 onshore permits (in the same area as the Elk and Antelope gas fields and PPLs 236, PPL 237 and PPL 238).

In April 2012, Total Marketing & Services created a new affiliate in Papua New Guinea, with offices in Port Moresby. Total Marketing & Services had been marketing lubricants in the country via a distributor arrangement for several years. The new affiliate will allow Total to more effectively support its mining and manufacturing customers in implementing their development projects in Papua New Guinea, which is enjoying strong economic growth.

Russia: Total announces the approval of the development of Yamal LNG,

a strategic liquefied natural gas project

Paris, December 18, 2013 – Total announces the final investment decision to develop the onshore Yamal LNG project in Russia. Total holds a 20% direct interest in the project which will develop reserves greater than 5 billion barrels of oil equivalent. The Yamal LNG project consists of an LNG plant with a capacity of 16.5 million tons per year (Mt/y) and represents a total capital expenditure of 27 billion dollars, as estimated by the operator.

“The successful sanction of Yamal LNG strengthens Total’s global portfolio to sustain post-2017 production over the next decades and further increases our presence in a high potential region of Russia in terms of gas resources”, said Yves-Louis Darricarrère, President Upstream at Total “Yamal LNG has made tremendous progress in recent months and Total will join forces with Novatek by harnessing all of its expertise and effort to deliver this top-tier LNG project within schedule.”

The project, operated by Yamal LNG JSC, consists of the development of the giant onshore South Tambey gas and condensate field, located on the Yamal peninsula. The project will include three LNG trains of 5.5 Mt/y each, with the first train scheduled to start-up in 2017, LNG storage tanks and harbor infrastructure in the port of Sabetta. The construction of the infrastructure (airport, harbor, camps) is already well advanced with more than 3,000 personnel actively involved on site. In order to transport the LNG to international markets, up to sixteen icebreaking LNG carriers will be used.

Around 70% of the LNG production of the Yamal LNG project has already been sold under long-term oil-linked price contracts, directed mostly to Asia, and the rest to Europe.

Yamal LNG is currently owned by Novatek (80%) and Total (20%). In September 2013, Novatek and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) concluded an agreement whereby CNPC is expected to acquire a 20% equity share in Yamal LNG.

Total Exploration & Production in Russia

Total has been present in Russia since 1991 and the Group’s equity production was 179,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) in 2012.

This production comes from the onshore Kharyaga field (Total 40%, operator) and other fields through Total’s share in Novatek, which produces more than 10% of Russian gas output.

In addition to Yamal LNG, Total (49%) and Novatek (51%) are also developing the onshore Termokarstovoye gas and condensate field (capacity 65,000 boe/d) in the Yamalo-Nenets district, for which first production is expected in 2015.

Qatar Petroleum International enters into the share capital of Total E&P Congo

Paris, December 26, 2013 - Further to the signing of a framework agreement in early May, Total is pleased to announce that QPI is now a shareholder of Total E&P Congo, holding 15% of its capital.

“The conclusion of this agreement, which is an important milestone, builds on Total’s already well-established partnership with Qatar and at the same time strengthens our commitment to the development of the Congolese petroleum industry,” commented Christophe de Margerie, Chairman and CEO of Total.

This transaction, whilst demonstrating the quality of Total E&P Congo’s assets and the expertise within its organization, is also in line with the Group’s strategy of active portfolio management.

The 1.6 billion dollar increase of Total E&P Congo’s capital will consolidate its financial capacity at a time when it is progressing the development of the Moho Nord deep offshore project.

Present in the Republic of the Congo since 1968, Total E&P Congo is the country’s leading oil producer, operating 10 of the 22 fields developed, and accounting for nearly 60% of national output. Total E&P Congo’s equity production averaged 113,000 boe/d in 2012.

Total Becomes the First Major to Enter into Shale Gas Licences in the UK

Paris, January 13, 2014 – Total announces that it has acquired a 40% interest in two shale gas exploration licences in the United Kingdom. The interests are in Petroleum Exploration & Development Licences 139 and 140 in the Gainsborough Trough area of the East Midlands region of the UK which cover an area of 240 km2.

Commenting on the acquisition, Patrice de Viviès, Total’s Senior Vice President for Northern Europe, said: “This opportunity is an important milestone for Total E&P UK and opens a new chapter for the subsidiary in a promising onshore play. The Group is already involved in shale gas projects in the US, Argentina, China, Australia and in Europe in Poland and in Denmark, and will leverage its expertise in this new venture in the UK.”

On completion of the transaction, Total’s partners in the project will be GP Energy Limited (a subsidiary of Dart Energy Europe) (17.5%), Egdon Resources UK Ltd (14.5%), Island Gas Ltd (IGas) (14.5%) and eCorp Oil & Gas UK Ltd (13.5%). IGas will be the operator of the initial exploration programme, with Total subsequently taking over operatorship as the project moves towards development.

Total Exploration & Production in the United Kingdom

With investments of approximately 2 billion dollars each year in the UK, Total E&P UK will become the largest oil and gas producer in the country by 2015. Current developments include the West Franklin Phase II project (operator, 40,000 boe/d capacity), and the Laggan-Tormore project (operator, 90,000 boe/d capacity) in the West of Shetland area, both of which are scheduled to start up in 2014.

Safety is a priority for Total as well as safeguarding the environment. Total contributes to the communities in and around its north-east Scotland base and in Shetland.

Total has been present in the United Kingdom since 1962 and is currently one of the country’s leading oil and gas operators with a production of 105,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2013.

More than 90% of Total’s production in the UK comes from several operated fields located in two major zones: the Alwyn zone in the northern North Sea, and the Elgin/Franklin zone in the Central Graben.

Notice of Appointment

Paris, January 21, 2014 – Maarten Scholten is appointed Senior Vice-President, General Counsel of Total.

Effective January 1, 2014, Maarten Scholten is appointed Senior Vice-President, General Counsel of Total. He succeeds to Peter Herbel. Maarten Scholten will report to Christophe de Margerie, Chairman and CEO of Total.

Mr. Scholten joins Total’s Management committee.

 

Maarten Scholten has almost 30 years of extensive legal and financial experience from the oil industry.

During his 20 years career at Schlumberger, Mr. Scholten served in Senior and Executive positions as Director of Legal Service, Head of Finance, President Schlumberger Oilfield Services ECA (Europe, Africa and CIS), and Director Mergers & Acquisitions/Business Development.

Mr. Scholten holds a Master of Science in politics from the University of Paris (Sorbonne) and a JD Commercial Law from the University of Amsterdam. He is a Dutch citizen.

Bolivia: start-up of production from Itaú Phase 2

Paris, January 31, 2014 – Total announces the start-up of production from Phase 2 of the Itaú gas and condensate field located in Block XX (Tarija Oeste) in the Andean Cordillera foothills of Bolivia.

Building on the first phase of Itaú, which commenced production in February 2011, Phase 2 triples production capacity to 5 million cubic meters of gas per day (35,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day). The entire gas production of Itaú’s two phases 1 and 2 will be processed in a dedicated new unit on the same site as the facilities for the neighboring San Alberto field. As with Phase 1 production, Phase 2 production will be exported mainly to Argentina.

“Lifting Itaú‘s production capacity allows us to keep pace with the region’s growing gas demand,” explained Ladislas Paszkiewicz, Senior Vice President, Total E&P Americas. “The start-up of Itau Phase 2 demonstrates Total’s long-term commitment to Bolivia, where we are also actively pursuing the development of the Incahuasi field.”

Total E&P Bolivie discovered the Itaú field in 1999. The participation of Total E&P Bolivie represents 41% besides Petrobras (operator with 30%), BG Bolivia (25%) and YPFB Chaco (4%).

Total Exploration-Production in Bolivia

Present in Bolivia since 1996, Total E&P Bolivie (TEPBo) operates the Aquio and Ipati blocks, where Phase 1 development of the Incahuasi field began in September 2013. TEPBo has a 60% interest in the blocks, alongside Tecpetrol de Bolivia (20%) and Gazprom (20%).

Total also operates the Azero exploration license with a 50% interest and holds a 15% interest in the San Alberto and San Antonio blocks, which supply Brazil with natural gas.
