Elgin - Total confirms the success of the G4 well intervention

Paris, May 21 2012 - Following 5 days of close monitoring, Total is now able to confirm the success of the intervention conducted on May 15^th on the leaking G4 well on the Elgin complex, 240 kilometers from Aberdeen in the UK North Sea. To regain control of the well, heavy mud was pumped into G4 well from the semi-submersible drilling rig West Phoenix. Pumping heavy mud started on May 15^th at 9.20 a.m. (local time) and the leak was stopped 12 hours later.

Since then, several inspection visits to the wellhead platform have confirmed that the leak has completely stopped.

Following the success of the well intervention, the next phase will be to re-man the Elgin complex and restart the Rowan Viking drilling rig in order to set cement plugs in the G4 well. This phase, aiming at completing the plugging and permanent abandonment procedure of the G4 well, will take several weeks.

Once the first cement plug is set in the G4 well by the Rowan Viking, the drilling of the ongoing relief well with the Sedco 714 will be stopped. In consultation with the appropriate authorities, it has been decided that drilling a second relief well by the Rowan Gorilla V is no longer necessary and has therefore been cancelled.

Speaking about the Elgin situation, Yves-Louis Darricarrère, President Exploration & Production at Total, said: “While we will obviously take on board any lessons to be learned, I want to congratulate all the teams, including our partners that have been mobilised with the only focus to stop the leak. Safely evacuating everyone from the platform and adjacent drilling rig, preventing any serious environmental impact and recovering control of the G4 well is a highly commendable effort from the teams involved. I also want to thank the UK authorities for their co-operation and assistance since the leak began. Now, it is important that we continue to work together with the authorities to conclude the ongoing investigations, take into account lessons learnt and define the necessary conditions for restarting production of the Elgin-Franklin fields.”

Total launches an innovative campaign for its employees:

an exclusive offer to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency

Paris, May 22 2012 - Total and the company’s representative trade unions have signed an agreement to promote energy efficiency and the transition towards renewable energy among its employees. This programme is designed to provide concrete support for the personal effort of employees to improve the energy efficiency of their home and reduce their carbon emissions. It is part of the Group’s sustainable development strategy.

The launch of an offer of photovoltaic solar panels forms the first stage of this innovative campaign. It is aimed at all the employees of Total in France, over 40,000 people, who wish to equip their principal or secondary home with a photovoltaic array. The key points are:

a reduced system cost of up to 15 percent compared to market prices;

•

an exceptional Group discount of €1,500;

•

a bank loan at an attractive rate;

•

a sponsorship offer giving the possibility for each employee to allow their relatives and friends to benefit from the same preferential rate.

The Total photovoltaic solar offer is based on a turnkey system solution developed by its subsidiary SunPower, the pivot of the Group’s solar activities. It consists of SunPower^® panels, a structure and an inverter. Total and SunPower Commission a New Solar Panel Manufacturing Plant in France

SunPower’s Porcelette Facility to Produce the Industry’s Highest Efficiency Solar Panels

De Vernejoul, France — May 24, 2012 — Total and its affiliate SunPower¹(NASDAQ: SPWR), a Silicon Valley-based manufacturer of high efficiency solar cells, solar panels and solar systems, today announced the commissioning of a new photovoltaic solar panel manufacturing and assembly plant in the De Vernejoul industrial park in Porcelette, Eastern France.

The 3,300-square-meter plant is equipped with a 44 MWp² production line and will roll out approximately 150,000 high efficiency solar panels annually. At this facility, SunPower’s Maxeon^® solar cells, the most efficient technology available today, will be integrated and assembled into SunPower solar panels that will deliver a median efficiency of 20 percent. These solar panels will service the European residential and commercial rooftop markets.

The new production facility, SunPower Manufacturing De Vernejoul, will employ approximately 80 workers, with preference given to local residents.

“We believe our new De Vernejoul manufacturing facility, located at the heart of major European solar markets, allows us to supply the world’s highest efficiency solar panels to our customers,” said Marty Neese, SunPower chief operating officer. “This physical proximity to our French, Italian, German and Belgian customers will enhance our flexibility and shorten our delivery lead times, ramping up our ability to compete in today’s highly competitive market.”

Total Steps Up Exploration Activities in Kenya

with the Award of the Offshore L22 License in the Lamu Basin

Paris, June 27, 2012 - Total today announced the signature of a production sharing contract with the Kenyan government for Block L22, which it will operate with a 100% interest.

Covering an area of more than 10,000 square kilometers, the exploration license is located offshore the Lamu Archipelago in water depths of between 2,000 and 3,500 meters. The first phase of the exploration program consists of a 3D seismic survey.

Following the signing ceremony, Jacques Marraud des Grottes, Senior Vice President for Exploration & Production in Africa commented: “This most recent award is aligned with Total’s strategy of building a strong presence in the new basins of East Africa offering high-potential plays for exploration by leveraging our internationally recognized deep offshore expertise.”

Total in Kenya

Total has been present in Kenya — one of its longest established host countries — since 1955 through Total Kenya, headquartered in Nairobi. Total Kenya is listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange and employs 385 people.

Market leader since its acquisition of Chevron’s assets in 2009, Total Kenya conducts the Group’s marketing operations in the country, notably with a network of 167 service stations, and positions in general retail, lubricants, LPG and aviation fuel distribution.

Total has been present in exploration and production in Kenya since 2011 and holds a 40% interest in the L5, L7, L11a, L11b and L12 exploration licenses in the Lamu Basin, which are operated by Anadarko. Drilling of an exploration well is scheduled to begin in 2012.

Iraq: Total and partners PetroChina and Petronas

start production from the Halfaya oil field

Paris, June 27, 2012 - Total announces that the consortium led by PetroChina has started raising production from the Halfaya field to reach in its first phase an average of 70,000 barrels a day from newly built facilities.

The 20-year Development and Production Service contract with Missan Oil Company for the development of the Halfaya oil field was signed on January 27, 2010. Total E&P Iraq holds a 18.75% interest in the consortium, alongside the operator PetroChina (37.5%) and partners Petronas Carigali (18.75%) and the State Partner South Oil Company (25%).

The Halfaya oil field is located in the Missan governorate, 35 kilometers southeast of Amara city, and spreads across 30 kilometers long and 10 kilometers wide. The consortium intends to increase the current oil field production to 535,000 barrels of oil per day at plateau.

“This first step of production from Halfaya marks a landmark milestone in the development of the field. Total remains committed to accompanying the development of the Iraqi oil industry and is looking at engaging in other projects. In working with its partners PetroChina and Petronas on the Halfaya oil field, Total will also further strengthen its international partnership with world-class national oil companies”, said Yves-Louis Darricarrère, President of Total Exploration & Production.

Total in Iraq

In Iraq, Total started its activities in the 1920s with the discovery of the Kirkuk field. In the 1970s, Total brought the Buzurgan and Abu Ghirab fields on stream. Since then, Total has continuously cooperated with the Iraqi authorities on various technical studies and has provided training to numerous local engineers.

Azerbaijan: Socar, Total and GDF Suez issue a ‘Notice of Discovery and its Commerciality’ for the Absheron discovery in the Azerbaijani deep waters of the Caspian Sea

Paris, July 2 2012 - A ‘Notice of Discovery and its Commerciality’ for the Absheron discovery was submitted on June, 1 on behalf of the partnership Socar - Total - GDF Suez by operator Total E&P Absheron.

This step is an important milestone in the frame work of the Agreement on Exploration, Development and Production Sharing for the Absheron offshore block in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea (EDPSA) signed on February 27, 2009. It is a confirmation of the importance of the discovery, announced in September 2011, on the Absheron X-2 well.

The well was drilled in 474 meters of water depth and reached a depth of 6874 m. One of the hydrocarbon bearing intervals was tested at 960 thousand cubic meters per day (km³/d) of non associated gas. During this production test, nearly 400 cubic meters per day (m³/d) – 2500 barrels per day (b/d) - of a 42,5° API condensate were also produced.

The well results indicate gas resources of 150 to 300 billions of cubic meters (Bcm) – 5 to 10 trillions of cubic feet (Tcf) - of non-associated gas with condensates in the Balakhany and Fasila formations on the Northern compartment of the structure. The elongated structure straddles approximately 270 square-kilometers and the cumulative net pay is greater than 160 meters thick.

Operations on Absheron X-2 wells are continuing with the drilling of a side track toward the Northern part of the structure.

The Absheron field is located around 100 kilometers South East of Baku and could be developed with a limited number of wells for a first phase of development. The Work Program of the partnership now includes studies and surveys to better dimension this development. A 3D seismic campaign will be shot in 2013 and more appraisal wells may be drilled to better assess the extent and the geometry of the structure.

Norway: new gas and condensate discovery in Southern North Sea

Paris, July 4, 2012 – Total announces that its affiliate Total E&P Norge has participated in a significant gas and condensate discovery in the King Lear prospect on Production Licenses 146 & 333 in the Southern sector of the Norwegian North Sea (Statoil 77,8%, operator; Total 22,2%).

The King Lear 2/4-21 well has encountered volumes estimated at between 70 and 200 million barrels of oil equivalent. The King Lear well was drilled in a water depth of 67 metres to a vertical depth of 5,344 metres below sea level.

Commenting on the discovery, Patrice de Viviès, Senior Vice President, Northern Europe, Total Exploration & Production said: “King Lear lies adjacent to the Ekofisk License (Total 39,9%) and is also close to two blocks awarded to Total in the last APA Licensing round earlier this year, PL618 (Total 60%) and PL619 (Total 50%). This success confirms the deep gas/condensate prospectivity of the whole area, and we are working to drill a number of additional exploration wells on similar prospects in the next few years. Together with the existing Tommeliten discovery (Total 20,23%), this could lead to a new gas processing hub in the area, onstream before the end of this decade”.

Total Exploration & Production in Norway

Since the late sixties, Total has played a major role in the development of a large number of Norwegian fields notably Frigg and Heimdal. Norway was the largest contributor to the Group’s equity production in 2011 with 287,000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per day. Total holds interests in 90 production licenses offshore Norway, 22 of which it operates.

In the first half-year 2011 the developments of the Ekofisk South and Eldfisk II fields were launched, in which Total has a participation of 39.9 %. Each development has a production capacity of 70,000 boe per day and the production start-up is expected in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

In November 2011 the Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) for the operated Atla fast-track subsea field development was approved by the Norwegian Authorities. Atla is scheduled to come on stream in October 2012.

In January 2012 Total submitted the PDO for the Martin Linge field, a standalone field development planned to come onstream in Q4 2016. The PDO was approved by the Storting (parliament) in June

In 2011 Total made two promising discoveries as operator. The first was on Norvarg in the Barents Sea with resources that could reach up to around 300 million boe, the second on Alve North in the Norwegian Sea close to existing infrastructures. Appraisal of both discoveries is being planned.

Launch of a new development phase of the Yucal

Placer Gas Field in Venezuela

Paris, July 9, 2012 - Total announces, together with its partners Repsol, Inepetrol and Otepi, having taken the final investment decision for a new development phase of the Yucal Placer gas field, operated by Ypergas*, and located in Guárico State, Venezuela.

The production capacity of this field, which came on stream in 2004, will be increased as soon as in 2012 and will ultimately reach a plateau at around 300 million cubic feet per day, which corresponds to three times the current production.

The sanction of this major expansion project follows the signature of an addendum to the gas sales and purchase agreement between Ypergas and PDVSA Gas. The project will significantly increase the gas resources available to supply the domestic Venezuelan market which is experiencing strong growth.

Yucal Placer’s gas characteristics - high-CO₂ content, high-temperature - require specific technological expertise in sour gas and high-temperature deposits, which Total has developed and consolidated.

Total Exploration & Production in Venezuela

Total’s Venezuelan production averaged 54,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2011.

Total has a 69.5% interest in the Yucal Placer Norte and Yucal Placer Sur licenses, held directly through its affiliate Total Oil & Gas Venezuela and indirectly via its interest in the operating company Ypergas.

Total is also present in extra-heavy oil of the Orinoco Belt with a 30.3% stake in Petrocedeño, a mixed company under Venezuelan law.

With this new project, Total confirms its commitment to expanding its operations in Venezuela and contributing, as a partner of PDVSA, to the country’s economic development.

Total takes operatorship of Xerelete block in Brazil

Paris, July 10, 2012 - Total announces that it has become operator of the offshore Xerelete concession located in a promising area of Brazil’s Campos basin. The transfer of operatorship from Petrobras to Total follows a unanimous decision by the Xerelete partners and approval by the Brazilian authorities. Total and Petrobras each hold a 41.2% interest in the concession, while BP holds the remaining 17.6 %.

“Total is looking forward to bringing its worldwide expertise in ultra-deep offshore operations to Brazil,” said Ladislas Paszkiewicz, Senior Vice President for Exploration & Production Americas. “Our decision to assume operatorship of Xerelete is part of the Group’s strategy to strengthen its exploration and production activities in Brazil. It demonstrates our willingness to expand our presence in the country.”

The Xerelete field, located around 250 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, was discovered in 2001 in water depths of 2,400 meters and contains relatively heavy oil (17° to 20° API). A pre-Salt prospect has also been identified below the Xerelete structure, which lies around 40 kilometers west of the recently announced Pão de Açucar discovery.

Total plans to start drilling activities in 2013.

In addition to its participation in Xerelete, Total holds a 20 % interest in Block BM-S-54, where the Gato do Mato discovery is being appraised.

Total in Brazil

Total is present in several industrial segments through its affiliates Total E&P do Brasil, Total Gás e Electricidade do Brasil, Total Lubrificantes, Hutchinson, CCP Composites, Bostik and Atotech and employs around 3,000 people in the country. Australia: Total increases its stake in Ichthys to 30%

Paris, July 12, 2012 - Total today announced that it has acquired an additional 6% interest in the Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) project from its partner INPEX. Total’s overall equity stake in the Ichthys LNG project grows from 24% to 30%.

The acquisition does not impact any of the LNG offtake agreements with the entire annual production of LNG (8.4 million tons per annum) having already been sold for 15 years. Total, through its gas trading subsidiary, will purchase 0.9 million tons per year of this LNG.

The Ichthys LNG Project

Total and INPEX announced the final investment decision (FID) for the $34 billion dollar Ichthys liquefied natural gas project in Australia in January 2012. The project will develop approximately 3 billion barrels oil equivalent of reserves, including around 500 million barrels of condensate. The LNG plant ground breaking ceremony took place on May 18, 2012 in Darwin in the presence of Australia’s Prime Minister. First production is expected by the end of 2016.

Total and INPEX have a long and successful history of working together all around the world. Total brings to this world-scale project its technical expertise and best-in-class competencies in the management of very large projects.

The Ichthys LNG project consists of the development of the Ichthys gas and condensate field offshore North West Australia (lying in 260 metres of water depth) and the construction of an 889 kilometers gas transmission pipeline together with an onshore LNG plant near Darwin in the Northern Territory.

The offshore facilities will consist of a subsea multi wells development connected to a central processing facility (CPF) for gas treatment and a floating processing, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for condensates. The CPF and the FPSO will both be one of the largest in the world.

Onshore installations will consist of two LNG trains with a capacity of 4.2 million tons per year each and facilities for the extraction and the export of LPGs and condensate. In addition to its LNG production, the Ichthys LNG project is expected to generate 1.6 million tons per year of LPGs and 100,000 barrels of condensate a day at peak.

Total E&P has been present in Australia since 2005 and has interests in seven offshore exploration licenses – three of which it operates – in the Browse, Vulcan and Bonaparte Basins on the northwest shelf.
