Qatargas 2 Train B starts LNG production
Paris, September 9, 2009 — Total announces that Train B of the Qatargas 2 project started producing liquefied natural gas (LNG) on September 7, 2009. Train B, in which Total holds a 16.7% interest alongside the state-owned company Qatar Petroleum (65%) and ExxonMobil (18.3%), is one of the two trains that compose the Qatargas 2 project and has a production capacity of 7.8 million tons per year (Mt/y).
This project is the first integrated LNG project in the world as it also comprises the South Hook re-gasification terminal, located in Milford Haven, South Wales (United Kingdom), in which Total holds an 8.35% interest. This terminal, which started operating in the second quarter 2009, is the largest in Europe for import and LNG re-gasification with a capacity of 15.6 Mt/y.
LNG from Qatargas 2 Train B is primarily intended for deliveries in the United Kingdom, France and the United States.
Building on the successful partnership developed on Qatargas 1, Total reaffirms its commitment to the LNG industry in Qatar with the start-up of the second train of Qatargas 2”, declared Yves-Louis Darricarrère, President of Total Exploration & Production. “The Qatargas 2 project has already been recognised in the industry as one of the most daring in terms of size, technology and for its ability to integrate production, transport and re-gasification. The second train will bring Qatargas overall LNG production to 25 Mt/y”.
Total in Qatar
Total has been present in Qatar since 1936 and holds interests in the Al Khalij field, the North field, the Dolphin project, the Qatargas 1 liquefaction plant and the second train of Qatargas 2. The Group’s production in Qatar (including its share in the production of equity affiliates) averaged 121,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2008. Total is also a partner in the Ras Laffan refinery and in the Qapco and Qatofin petrochemical plants and projects.
Total and LNG
Total is a leading producer in the LNG sector, with strong and diversified positions worldwide. Total is active in most of the major LNG — producing regions and main LNG markets and continues to develop LNG as a key component of its development strategy.

The Group produces LNG in Indonesia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Nigeria and Norway. The start-ups of Qatargas 2 Train B and Yemen LNG in the upcoming weeks will increase Total’s LNG production by approximately 40% in 2010. Angola LNG, which is currently under construction, will complement this portfolio in 2012.
New liquefaction projects are currently being studied, including Shtokman in Russia in partnership with Gazprom, and Ichthys in Australia in partnership with Inpex.
The Group also secured long-term access to LNG re-gasification capacity located in key LNG markets: North America (Sabine Pass in the United States and Altamira in Mexico), Europe (Fos Cavaou in France and South Hook Terminal in the United Kingdom) and Asia (Hazira in India).

United Kingdom: Total Acquires Stake in Tobermory Discovery
Paris, September 9, 2009 — Total announces that its affiliate, Total E&P UK Limited (Total E&P UK), has entered into agreements with Mobil North Sea LLC, Marathon Oil U.K., Ltd. and Anadarko North Sea Holding Company Limited to acquire a 43.75% stake in UK Licence No. P967, which includes the Tobermory discovery. Total E&P UK will become the operator of the licence.
The Tobermory gas reservoir was discovered in 1999 by well 214/4-1. It is located in 1,600 metres of water depth and situated 175 kilometres North-West of the Shetland Isles.
This acquisition is in line with Total’s strategy of developing its position in the West of Shetland basin around its Laggan and Tormore operated discoveries. The development studies for these discoveries are being finalised and new gas export infrastructure to the St. Fergus gas terminal is planned, which Tobermory could utilise.
With Tobermory, Total reaffirms its commitment to actively pursuing exploration and contributing to the development of the United Kingdom‘s oil and gas resources.

Angola: Start-up of production of the Tombua and Landana fields
Paris, September 9, 2009 — Total announces that the Tombua and Landana fields located 80 kilometres offshore Angola, operated by Chevron and in which Total owns a 20% interest, started crude oil production on 19 August 2009.
The two fields located in Block 14 are expected to achieve peak production of 100,000 barrels per day in 2011. Recoverable resources for the two fields are estimated at 350 million barrels.
About the Tombua and Landana fields
The Tombua and Landana fields are located in 366 metres of water in Block 14. The 3.8 billion dollars project includes 46 wells and comprises a 474 metres compliant piled tower and sub-sea production facilities for the Tombua and Landana fields. The design will prevent any discharge of produced water and any routine gas flaring. The associated gas will be supplied to the Angola Liquefied Natural Gas project currently being constructed in Soyo, in which Total owns a 13.6% interest.
Block 14 is operated by Chevron (31%), alongside Total (20%), Sonangol P&P (20%), Eni (20%) and GALP (9%).
Total Exploration and Production in Angola
Total is present in Angola since 1953. In Angola, Total operated 530,000 barrels oil equivalent per day (boe/d) in 2008, and its SEC* equity production amounted approximately 205,000 boe/d in 2008. This production comes essentially from Blocks 17, 0 and 14.
Deep offshore Block 17, operated by Total with a 40% interest, is Total’s principal asset in Angola. It is composed of four major zones: Girassol-Rosa and Dalia, which are currently producing; Pazflor, a project under construction for a production start in 2011; and CLOV (based on the Cravo, Lirio, Orquidea and Violeta discoveries), a project under bidding process.
Total is also the operator with a 30% stake in the ultra deep offshore Block 32, on which 12 discoveries were made, confirming the oil potential of the block. Pre-development studies for a first production zone in the central south eastern portion of the block are underway.

In addition, the Angola LNG project for the construction of a liquefaction plant near Soyo is designed to bring the country’s natural gas reserves to market. This project, on which Total holds a 13.6% stake, will be supplied by the associated gas from the fields on Blocks 0, 14, 15, 17 and 18. The project is underway with production expected to begin in 2012.
In Angola, as in all countries where Total operates, the Group is committed to developing the Angolan oil industry while recruiting and providing professional training to local workers. Through its ambitious “Angolanisation” plan and technology transfer, Total has strengthened the local economy and made of Hygiene, Safety and Environment awareness a top priority. Total E&P Angola has developed a transparent and solid corporate social responsibility policy around three main axes: health, education (opening of four high schools in the provinces in 2009) and economic community development.

PRESS RELEASE
Total, GDF SUEZ, and Photovoltech join
IMEC’s silicon solar cell research program
Leuven, Belgium — September 21, 2009 — The two major energy companies Total and GDF SUEZ and their common solar cells manufacturing subsidiary Photovoltech join the IMEC industrial affiliation program (IIAP) on next generations of crystalline silicon solar cells. The multi-partner R&D program concentrates on sharply reducing the silicon use, whilst at the same time increasing the efficiency of solar cells. This will substantially lower the cost for solar energy.
With its IIAP, IMEC sets up a research ecosystem with the aim to create innovative processes to fabricate the next generations of silicon solar cells. Total, GDF SUEZ and Photovoltech will dedicate researchers to this program. Thus, researchers from energy companies, solar cell manufacturers and material and equipment suppliers will work together with IMEC’s solar experts on developing these advanced processes and testing them on a semi-industrial pilot line.
Luc Van den Hove, President and CEO at IMEC said: “We are excited that such major energy companies and Photovoltech join our research program. This agreement shows the importance of our research for the global energy market. By 2025 at least 20% from the worldwide energy supply will come from renewables. Solar energy will ensure at least 10% of the total electricity supply, but to achieve this, we need to join forces to strongly reduce the cost of solar technology”.
Philippe Boisseau, President Gas and Power at Total also said: “This agreement with IMEC, a world-class research center and historic partner of our branch Photovoltech, will give us access to promising new technologies for silicon solar cells. It will strengthen our skills and our scientific and technical commitment in new energies”.
“This program reinforces our partnership with IMEC and will allow us to develop key competitive positioning in the crystalline silicon solar cells technology”, said Henri Ducré, Member of the GDF SUEZ Executive Committee in charge of the Energy France business line. “This collaboration will also strengthen our position in a market where R&D choices are crucial and will extend our research capacity in the solar energy field”.
Johan Nijs, General Manager of Photovoltech said: “In order to cope with market requirements in terms of price and quality we need to deliver solar cells with ever improving electrical, optical and mechanical characteristics at lower cost. Collaborating with an outstanding R&D-center like IMEC offers unique opportunities to meet these challenges”.

Thailand: Greater Bongkot South gas sales agreement signed
Paris, September 22, 2009 — Total and the partners of the Bongkot Joint Venture announce that a Gas Sales Agreement has been signed with PTT covering all gas production from the Greater Bongkot South (GBS) field in the Gulf of Thailand. The Joint Venture is operated by PTTEP (44.45%), alongside partners Total (33.33%) and BG Group (22.22%).
With all the construction contracts for the GBS development being awarded, GBS first production is expected in 2012. At plateau, GBS will contribute 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to Total’s production, an increase of approximately 50% to the Group’s production in Thailand. This development will enable the Bongkot Joint Venture to further contribute to the increasing gas demand in Thailand.
About the GBS development
The offshore GBS field is located in Gulf of Thailand’s blocks B16 and B17, approximately 200 kilometres East of Songkhla. This new standalone development will consist of a central processing platform, a quarters platform and 13 wellhead platforms.
The processing platform will have a capacity of 350 million cubic feet of gas per day and 15,000 barrels of condensate per day. Gas will be exported via a new build spur line to the PTT 3rd trunk line while condensate will be exported to the existing Floating, Storage and Offloading (FSO) vessel at the Greater Bongkot North field, which is located 80 kilometres to the north.
Total Exploration and Production in Thailand
The Greater Bongkot North field (33.33%) is Total’s main asset in Thailand. In 2008 this field contributed 41,000 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day to the Group’s production.
Total is also active in power in Thailand and holds a 28% interest of Eastern Power and Electric Company Ltd (EPEC). Since 2003, EPEC has been operating the combined cycle gas power plant of Bang Bo, with a capacity of 350 Mega Watts.
In Thailand as in all the countries where Total has activities, the Group is engaged in initiatives towards the local communities and the environment. In Thailand, Total supports a three-year marine biodiversity program aimed at studying the marine ecosystems at Khanom beach in the Gulf of Thailand. Furthermore, Total supports a reforestation project in the Petchabun province, with local communities being trained and hired to plant and maintain trees. Total also promotes research and development by co-sponsoring a corrosion laboratory at the King Mongkut’s University of Technology in North Bangkok.
