Total Awarded Two Deep Offshore Blocks in Australia

Paris, February 27, 2006 — Total announces that wholly-owned subsidiary Total E&P Australia has been awarded two exploration permits offshore northwestern Australia following the October 2005 licensing round.

Exploration permits WA-369-P and WA-370-P are located approximately 150 kilometres offshore in a water depth of around 1,400 meters. Total will have an interest of 30%, alongside Australia’s Woodside Energy Ltd. (Operator, 50%) and Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty Ltd (20%).

Seismic surveys will be conducted in block WA-370-P this year.

These interests illustrate Total’s commitment to strengthening its presence in Australia, where it is already conducting exploration operations in two other deep offshore blocks.

China: Total enters into the Sulige field

Paris, March 2, 2006 — Total and PetroChina have signed a Production Sharing Contract for the evaluation, development and production of the natural gas resources of the South Sulige block of Ordos Basin, an area of around 2,390 square kilometres located in the Province of Inner Mongolia, onshore China. The contract is subject to approval by Chinese authorities.

The evaluation of this field will include the acquisition of new seismic data, reentry of existing wells and the drilling and testing of new wells.

“Total is pleased to be part of the Sulige development. This project is a major step towards unlocking potentially very large unconventional natural gas resources. It demonstrates the strong commitment of both PetroChina and Total to jointly cooperate in that field”, states Christophe de Margerie, President Exploration and Production of Total.

Total will bring to the partnership its technological expertise and working practices applied to the specific working conditions of the Ordos geological basin. Together with PetroChina, the Group will promote the replacement of traditional energy resources by cleaner fuels in the urban eastern regions.

Total and PetroChina have been partners for more than 10 years in one of the most important Chinese refineries, WEPEC. Located in Dalian, in the northeast of the country, WEPEC is operated by PetroChina and is currently being modernized and upgraded to a capacity of 10 million tons a year.

Total and PetroChina are also actively cooperating internationally to join their efforts and competencies in exploring and developing new resources in several domains, particularly heavy oils. Sulige project is an attractive and sizable opportunity which will allow in the two companies to strengthen their cooperation.

NOMINATION

Michel Bénézit Appointed Director General of Refining and Marketing for Total

Michel Bénézit who was previously Director of Exploration and Production for Northern Europe has been named President of Refining & Marketing for Total from April, 1^st, 2006. He will also become a member of the Group’s Executive Committee. Michel Bénézit succeeds Jean-Paul Vettier who was the President of Refining & Marketing for 13 years and who made this part of the Group one of the most successful among the oil majors.

Michel Bénézit, born in 1955, is a graduate of Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole des Mines. In 1980, he was appointed Director of mining and energy in New Caledonia, based in Noumea, then held various positions in government ministries in France. He joined Total in 1986 as head of planning for Total Petroleum North America in Denver (USA). In 1989, he became managing director of Total Austral in Argentina. Upon returning in Paris in 1992, he became Vice President of Total’s activities in Gas, Electricity and Coal, before becoming Vice President, Europe with Total Refining and Marketing in 1993. A member of the Group Management Committee since May 1995, he became Vice President Overseas in July 1995.

He was appointed Vice President, Exploration and Production, TotalFina in July 1999. He was Senior Vice President, Africa, Exploration and Production of TotalFinaElf from 2000 to September 2003. Since 2003, he had been Senior Vice President Northern Europe, Exploration and Production Division
