Yemen : Oil discovery in East Shabwa
Paris, January 2, 2006 — Total announces the successful production test of the well Jathma-1 in the East Shabwa Development Area, block 10, in Yemen.
Jathma-1 is the first of a 3-well exploration program targeting a new prospective area in the northern part of Block 10. It reached a total depth of 3,175 meters and produced over 1,900 barrels of 35 API degrees oil per day when tested.
This success confirms the block’s potential for sustained production over an extended period of time.
Total operates with a 28.57% interest the East Shabwa Development Area (EDSA) in partnership with Occidental Yemen Ltd., Comeco Petroleum Inc. and Kufpec Ksc. Total also holds a 15% equity interest in Jannah Block 5 and plays a leading role in the Yemen LNG project for the development of Yemen’s natural gas reserves.

Total Opens the First Company Day Care Center
in the La Défense Business District
Paris — January 3, 2006 — On Tuesday, January 3, 2006, 60 children aged two-and-a-half months to three years old will be brightening up the La Défense business district when they arrive at Total’s Les Petits Bonheurs company day care center.
A full-time team of 19 childcare professionals selected by specialized service provider People & Baby will manage the 630-square-meter day care and early learning center and its 200-square-meter playground. In addition to the educational team, a pediatrician will monitor the children’s health, while a psychotherapist will be on hand one half-day a week to help new mothers and fathers adjust to the changes that parenthood brings.
Explaining why Total undertook this initiative, François Carcaud-Macaire, Vice President, Human Resources, Head Office, the driving force behind the project, says: “There are some areas of their private lives that employees just can’t leave at home and that can affect their work and well-being at work. We try to provide solutions when possible. Day care is a huge problem in the Paris region, so we decided, with the help of our partners*, to open a Total day care center in La Défense.”
Offering full-time, part-time and occasional care options, the new center is open extended hours, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.—longer than its municipal counterparts. It also boasts facilities for disabled children.
The center offers Group employees a safe, quality environment where their children can develop and achieve their potential at their own pace. “Having your children nearby brings peace of mind and lowers stress levels significantly when an urgent project has to be finished or a meeting drags on and you don’t have to worry about getting across Paris to pick up your child on time,” adds François Carcaud-Macaire.
This initiative also demonstrates Total’s strong commitment to maintaining the balance between professional and personal life. For all employees, a day care center near the office can make it easier to efficiently juggle responsibilities at home and at work.

Norwegian Sea: Total acquires an additional 30% of the Victoria
discovery and disposes of 5% interest in the Tyrihans field
Paris, January 10, 2006 — Total announces that its wholly owned subsidiary, Total E&P Norge, has signed a sale and purchase agreement with ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Norway to acquire their entire 30% interest in the PL211 licence. This licence, located in the Norwegian Sea 200 kilometres offshore in water depths of around 400 metres, holds the Victoria discovery. The acquisition is subject to the approval of the Norwegian authorities. It will raise Total’s participation in the Victoria discovery to 50%.
Total E&P Norge plans to propose its candidature as operator to the other partners on the PL211 licence, Statoil (30%) and Eni Norge (20%).
As part of this transaction Total will transfer to ExxonMobil 5% of the Tyrihans field (6.29% of the PL073 licence). Following this transfer, Total’s stake in the Tyrihans field will go from 26.51% to 21.51%.
Through this investment, Total aims at increasing the volume and lifespan of its hydrocarbon reserves in Norway and thus consolidating its position as leader and operator in this country.

Confirmation of the Potential of the Gengibre Find
in Ultra-Deepwater Block 32 Offshore Angola
Paris, January 11, 2006 — Sociedade Nacional de Combustiveis de Angola (Sonangol) and Total announce that the Gengibre-2 appraisal well confirmed the potential of the early 2005 Gengibre-1 discovery well in Block 32 in the Angolan ultra-deep offshore.
Located around 2 kilometers from Gengibre-1 in a water depth of 1,697 meters, Gengibre-2 encountered a number of objectives before reaching a total depth of  4,342 meters. During two tests, it flowed at 4,540 barrels of oil per day from a Miocene reservoir and 5,100 barrels of oil per day from an Oligocene reservoir.
The Gengibre find is located in the eastern section of Block 32, around 17 kilometers from the 2003 Gindungo discovery and 12 kilometers from the 2004 Canela-1 discovery. Technical studies are underway for joint development of the discoveries.
Sonangol is the Block 32 concessionaire. Total operates the block with a 30% interest, alongside Marathon Oil Company (30%), Sonangol E.P. (20%), Esso Exploration and Production Angola (Overseas) Limited (15%) and Petrogal (5%).
Total is Africa’s leading international oil producer, with output of 813,000 barrels oil equivalent per day in 2004. The Group had equity production of 164,000 barrels oil equivalent per day in Angola in 2004, where it is pursuing a major development program.
