Norway: Discovery of hydrocarbons on the Onyx SW prospect

Paris, May 23, 2005 — Total announces a gas discovery on the licence PL255, in the Haltenbanken area of the Norwegian Sea some 150 kilometres from the coast in water depths of approximately 300 metres. Total holds a 20% in the licence beside partners Shell (operator), Statoil and Petoro.

The 6406/9-1 exploration well drilled on the Onyx SW prospect attained a total depth of 5,052 metres below sea level. Condensates were encountered in several levels of the Jurassic layer and two tests made with a maximum debit of 1.4 million cubic meters of gas per day with a 48/64 inch choke.

A complementary appreciation well will be drilled in the coming months to further establish the precise size of the discovery. Other prospects have been identified on this license and will be studied.

This discovery reinforces Total’s position in Norway where the Group presently produces around 400,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. In the years to come, Total will grow production thanks to the achievement of “Great Ekofisk” project and the start-up of the liquefied natural gas project Snohvit.

Total Makes Fourth Oil Discovery
in Angola’s Ultra-Deep Offshore Block 32

Paris — June 8, 2005 — Sociedade Nacional de Combustíveis de Angola (Sonangol EP) and Total announce a new oil discovery in the ultra-deep Angolan offshore with the fourth well drilled in Block 32.

Drilled in a water depth of 1,703 meters, the Gengibre-1 well tested at 4,724 barrels per day of oil from a single reservoir. With a total depth of 4,432 meters, the well is located in the eastern section of Block 32, around 17 kilometers from the 2003 Gindungo-1 find and 12 kilometers from the 2004 Canela-1 find.

Further geological and engineering studies will be performed to appraise the production potential of the Gengibre discovery.

Sociedade Nacional de Combustíveis de Angola is the Block 32 concessionaire. Total operates the block with a 30% interest, alongside Marathon Oil Company (30%), Sonangol EP (20%), Esso Exploration and Production Angola Ltd. (15%) and Petrogal (5%).

Total is Africa’s leading international producer, with output of 813,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2004. It is a top-tier oil operator in Angola, where it is pursuing a major development program. The Group has operations onshore and in the deep and ultra-deep offshore, and is the operator, with a 40% interest, of Block 17, where the Dalia and Rosa fields are under development. Total’s equity production in Angola was 164,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2004.

Nigeria: Total signs farm-in agreement for 40% of block OPL 215

Paris, June 9, 2005 — Total announces that the company’s Nigerian operating subsidiary, Elf Petroleum Nigeria Ltd. (EPNL), has signed a farm-in agreement with NorEast Petroleum Nigeria Ltd., for the Oil Prospecting License (OPL) 215 offshore southwest Nigeria.

OPL 215 is located in the central part of the Niger Delta and covers an area near to 2,500 square kilometres in water depths between 200 to 1,600 metres.

With this agreement, Total has acquired a 40% participating interest in OPL 215. Total is the technical partner and will operate the block on behalf of NorEast Petroleum.

Present in Nigeria since 1962, Total’s equity production in 2004 stood at 271,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. More than doubling since 1999 with the start-up of Amenam/Kpono, the Group’s production promises a strong continued growth in the years to come with the completion of Akpo in 2008 and future development of Usan (block 222). These projects are complemented by Total’s stake in the Bonny Liquefied Natural Gas plant with trains 4, 5 and 6 coming on stream within three years.

The signing of this contract confirms Total’s growth and diversification strategy in Nigeria while demonstrating its commitment to and confidence in the country’s oil and gas industry’s development potential.

AdBlue now Available at Total Service Stations

Paris — June 15, 2005 — To meet the stringent Euro IV and Euro V emission standards for trucks and buses engines, most heavy-duty diesel vehicle manufacturers use selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, which reduces, by approximately 85%, nitrogen oxide emissions by converting NOx molecules into steam and nitrogen through a reaction with urea in the exhaust system. The urea is contained in a water-based solution known as AdBlue.

Following tests at three pilot filling stations in Germany, Total has inaugurated the first French service station marketing urea, near Lyon. Total will supply AdBlue through a network of 400 own-branded retail outlets and AS24-branded truck service stations in Europe within three years. AdBlue will also be available in bulk loads, intermediate bulk containers and cans.

The sale of AdBlue is part of Total’s long-standing commitment to reducing emissions. The Group tests and develops automotive fuels that provide consumers with real-world solutions to environmental, air quality and fuel efficiency issues. Examples include Excellium fuels, biofuels and LPG. Total is also working with carmakers to jointly develop ever cleaner, more efficient engine technologies.

Total Partners Development of Wave Power,
a New Renewable Energy

Paris, June 20, 2005 — As part of its commitment to renewable energies such as solar power and wind energy, Total has decided to participate in a third option for renewables-based power generation, through the acquisition of a 10% interest in a pilot project offshore Santona, northern Spain, to develop ocean swell and wave power.

The other partners are Iberdrola1 (60%), Sodercan2 (10%), IDAE3 (10%), and Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) (10%), which is supplying the technology, already implemented offshore the United States. Studies are in progress to design and size the installations, in particular generation capacity, which is expected to be around 1.5 MW.

This research and development project will help to define the technical and financial potential of wave power which works by capturing and converting the energy of waves into a controlled mechanical force that drives an electrical generator.

Total has also signed an agreement with Iberdrola and OPT to study implementation of wave power in France. Initially, the partners will identify potential sites offshore the French coast. If conditions are favourable, in particular among local populations, they could later develop one or more power generation units.

With this transaction, Total confirms its long-standing interest in renewable energies. The Group has been active in photovoltaic solar power for more than 20 years, operating through two companies, Photovoltech and Tenesol. Following the inauguration of its first wind farm near Dunkirk in 2003, France, Total is now actively looking at a number of large-scale onshore and offshore wind power projects in Europe, especially in France, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Carina-Aries Gas Development Brought on Stream
in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

Paris — June 24, 2005 — Total announces that the Carina-Aries gas fields, located offshore the Tierra del Fuego province, Argentina, have been brought on stream. Total operates the project with a 37.5% interest, alongside partners Wintershall and Pan American Energy.

Carina and Aries are located 80 and 40 kilometers offshore in a water depth of 80 and 60 meters respectively. The gas is produced from two unmanned platforms and piped onshore, where it is processed in the Rio Cullen and Cañadon Alfa units.

Production of Carina-Aries will eventually ramp up to a plateau of 8 million cubic meters per day allowing for a consolidated gas production of 11.5 million cubic meters per day for the consortium in Tierra del Fuego.

Present in Argentina since 1978, Total is, through its subsidiary Total Austral, the country’s second-biggest gas operator, with fields operated in Tierra del Fuego and the Neuquen region. The Group also holds interests in pipelines serving the Argentinean market and neighbouring countries. Furthermore, Total is Argentina’s second largest electricity producer with interests in the Central Puerto and Hidroelectrica Piedra del Aguila power plants.
