Nigeria : New Extension of the Usan Field Discovery

Paris, January 6, 2005 — Total announces that its Nigerian operating subsidiary, Elf Petroleum Nigeria Ltd. (EPNL), has encountered hydrocarbons in the area west of the Usan field discovery in deepwater Oil Prospecting License (OPL) 222, offshore south-eastern Nigeria.

The Usan 6 appraisal well was drilled at around 110 kilometres offshore and 4 kilometres south of the Usan-5 well in water depths of approximately 850 metres. It is the fifth successful appraisal well on the Usan field discovered in 2002.

During the well test, Usan 6 was flowed at a rate of 5,800 barrels of oil per day under restricted flow conditions. The well confirms the high potential of the Usan structure on an extension of the accumulation west of Usan 1 to 4 wells and south of Usan 5.

Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC) is concessionaire for OPL 222 under a production sharing contract operated by Elf Petroleum Nigeria Ltd. (20%), in partnership with Chevron Petroleum Nigeria Ltd. (30%), Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Offshore East) Ltd. (30%) and Nexen Petroleum Nigeria Ltd. (20%).

Trinidad and Tobago: Production start-up of Greater Angostura Field

Paris, January 12, 2005 — Total (30%) along with partners BHP Billiton (operator with 45%) and Talisman Energy (25%) announce the production start-up of the oil field Greater Angostura, offshore Trinidad and Tobago.

Greater Angostura is located in block 2(c) 40 kilometres northeast of the Trinidad coast and in water depths of around 40 metres. The oil production will be around 60,000 barrels of oil per day with all produced gas being initially re-injected in order to optimise oil recovery. In a second phase of the project, the field’s gas reserves will be developed and commercialized.

The Greater Angostura field has three wellhead platforms tied back to a central production platform, linked by a pipeline to the shore and the Guayaguayare storage terminal.

In Trinidad and Tobago, besides the company’s stake in block 2(c), Total holds a 10% share in block 3(a) presently under exploration.

Total signs an agreement to take a stake in Plataforma Deltana Block 4
in Venezuela

Paris January 17, 2005 — Total has signed an agreement with the Norwegian company Statoil to take a 49% stake in the Plataforma Deltana Block 4 licence, offshore to the northwest of the Orinoco Delta in Venezuela. This agreement is subject to the approval of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of the Venezuelan Bolivarian Republic.

The license covers an area of approximately 1,400 square kilometres in water depths varying from 200 to 800 metres. It is situated in a major prospective offshore gas area where several significant discoveries have already been made. The minimum exploration program calls for the drilling of three wells with the first well, Ballena-1X, ongoing.

This latest agreement is in line with Total’s strategy of development in Venezuela. The Group is one of the largest foreign investors with a participation of 47% in the Sincor project, in partnership with PDVSA and Statoil, producing and upgrading more than 200 000 barrels per day of extra heavy oil from the Orinoco belt. Total also produces around 30,000 barrels of light oil per day from the Jusepin field as well as close to 100 million cubic feet of gas per day from the Yucal Placer field.

Total takes a stake in two deep offshore exploration blocks in Australia

Paris, January 24, 2005 — Total announces the signature of two agreements to participate in the exploration of two offshore blocks situated to the northwest of Australia.

Under the terms of one agreement with the Australian company Woodside, Total takes a 30% interest in the WA-269-P exploration block situated 150 kilometres from the shore in water depths between 300 and 1,500 metres. Woodside, as operator, is in the joint-venture with Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty Ltd. who holds a 20% interest. Total could, under certain conditions, obtain an additional 10% stake in the block.

Total has also signed an agreement with the companies Woodside (operator), BHP Billiton and Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty Ltd. to take a 50% interest in the exploration block WA-297-P situated 200 kilometres from the shore in water depths between 1,000 and 2,000 metres.

Exploration activities are planned in both blocks this year.

Signature of two Production Sharing Contracts in Mauritania

Paris, January 27, 2005 — Total announces the signature of two production sharing contracts with the State of Mauritania for the onshore blocks Ta7 and Ta8. Situated in the Taoudenni basin, north-eastern Mauritania, these blocks cover a surface area of nearly 58,000 square kilometres.

These contracts follow an agreement for petroleum exploration studies signed 18 months ago by Total for on the ground geological works on both of these blocks. Furthermore, three exploration phases are planned, each for a duration of three years for each of them.

Total is already present in Mauritania through its distribution network with the local subsidiary operating around 60 service stations.
