Total and Total Energie to Begin Building
Solar Panel Production Plant in Toulouse

Paris, June 7, 2004 - After preliminary studies and in agreement with all shareholders, Total Energie has approved the construction of a photovoltaic solar panel production plant in Saint-Martin-du-Touch, in the Greater Toulouse area of France. The plant will be owned by Tenesol Technologies, a specially created, wholly-owned subsidiary of Total Energie.

The approximate €6-million investment is in line with Total’s pledge, made when it announced the closure of the AZF plant, to actively support business in Toulouse and invest to create jobs in the area, in cooperation with local stakeholders.

In response to the very strong growth of the photovoltaic solar energy market in Europe, especially Germany, Total Energie has decided to build a plant with a capacity of 15 MW, rather than the originally planned 5 MW. The plant is expected to create around 70 jobs.

The plant’s production capacity is equivalent to around 6% of estimated European production capacity in 2003, and is close to ten times the total capacity of photovoltaic systems connected to the grid in metropolitan France at end-2003.

Total Energie, owned 35% by Total and 45% by Electricité de France (EDF), has designed, produced, installed and operated photovoltaic systems for more than 20 years. The new plant will consolidate the company’s existing production capacity in South Africa.

This investment reflects Total’s confidence in and support for the development of this renewable energy, which has significant short, medium and long-term growth potential.

Norway: Total Awarded Exploration License and Operatorship

Paris, June 24, 2004 - Total has been awarded a new exploration license in Norway’s 18th licensing round.

The approximately 900-square-kilometer license, which comprises Blocks 6406/7 and 6406/8, is located in the Haltenbanken area of the Norwegian Sea in water depths ranging from 300 to 380 meters. Total is the operator with a 40% interest; its co-venturers are Shell, Statoil and Eni.

Total is a top-tier international oil and gas producer in Norway, with output of 405,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2003.

Total Appoints Jean-Marc Jaubert
Senior Vice President, Industrial Safety

Paris, June 28, 2004 - Effective August 2, 2004, Jean-Marc Jaubert, Atofina’s Vice President, Industrial Safety, is appointed Senior Vice President, Industrial Safety at Total. He will also be a member of the Group’s Management Committee.

Mr. Jaubert succeeds Pierre Guyonnet, who has been appointed Chairman of ATEE (the French Association for Energy Efficiency).

Jean-Marc Jaubert, 47, is a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole des Mines in Paris. He joined Elf in 1981 as an economic engineer in the refining business, and was later appointed process engineer at the Grandpuit refinery. In 1985, he moved to the petrochemicals business as operations manager of the high-pressure polyethylene unit at the Gonfreville plant. Beginning in 1989, he held a variety of marketing positions in Elf Atochem’s Petrochemicals Division, before heading it from 1998. He was subsequently appointed Vice President, Industrial Petrochemicals at Atofina, based in Brussels. Since March 2002, he has been Vice President, Industrial Safety of the Chemicals business.

Pierre Guyonnet
Chairman, ATEE (the French Association for Energy Efficiency)
An engineering graduate of the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure du Pétrole et des Moteurs (ENSPM), Pierre Guyonnet joined Total in 1969. He spent much of his career developing oil projects outside France. Beginning in 1982, he was responsible for offshore project management in the North Sea and Asia. In 1996, he joined the Exploration & Production business’ senior management, before becoming a member of Total’s senior management in 2000 as Director of the Atlantic Coast Fund. In early 2002, he was appointed Senior Vice President, Industrial Safety and became a member of the Management Board.

Please be advised that in connection with Total’s share repurchase program, TOTAL S.A. reacquired 8,100,000 of its ordinary shares, nominal value 10 euros per share, during the three month period ending June 30th, 2004, through trades executed on the Paris Bourse. Before these operations, TOTAL S.A. held 16,015,506 shares in treasury. In addition, at June 30th, 2004, 25,082,817 shares were held by various subsidiaries. As a result, Total held an aggregate of 49,198,323 of its ordinary shares at such date.
