Item 7.01  Regulation FD Disclosure.

On October 13, 2004, Jones Apparel Group, Inc. issued a press release announcing that it was lowering 2004 guidance for the third quarter and full year and  providing 2005 guidance for net revenues and earnings per share.  A copy of the press release is attached as Exhibit 99.1 to this report.  A transcript of Jones' analyst conference call held on October 13, 2004 to review this guidance is attached as Exhibit 99.2 to this report.
