Income Taxes

For the three and six months ended June 30, 2012, income tax expense relating to the Company's pre-tax income was fully offset by a reversal of a portion of the Company's valuation allowance.  The Company continues to recognize a full valuation allowance against its net operating loss carry-forward and other deferred tax assets since the Company has an extended history of losses.

For the three and six months ended June 30, 2011, the Company incurred a net loss for tax purposes and recognized a full valuation allowance against deferred tax assets. For the three and six months ended June 30, 2011, the Company recognized an income tax benefit of $0.9 million and $1.1 million, respectively, in connection with the net tax effect of the change in the Company's unrealized gain/(loss) on "available-for-sale" marketable securities, which is included in other comprehensive income (loss).
