On August 11, 2005, Safeco’s Board of Directors appointed Maria S. Eitel as director. Ms. Eitel will serve as a Class III director and will stand for election at the company’s 2006 shareholders meeting. Ms. Eitel will serve on the board’s Nominating/Governance Committee. More information is included in the press release filed as an exhibit to this Form 8-K.
