We are writing to notify you pursuant to the Disclosure of Interests in Shares (Amendment) Regulations 1993 (SI 1993 No. 1819) of our interest in investment holdings in the ordinary share capital of Signet Group plc. Following a purchase of 1,474,300 shares on December 6, 2004, accounts managed by Harris Associates L.P. became the beneficial owners of 104,581,400 shares of Signet Group plc. This represents a 6.03% ownership of the company and an increase above the 6% substantial shareholder filing threshold.

Percentages are based on 1,733,400,008 outstanding shares. All holdings of Signet Group plc are for investment purposes only.
