Net gains and losses recognized on equity securities held at each period end were included in Interest and Other Income (Expense). For the three months ended June 30, 2019 and 2018, this included a net gain of $1.7 million and $1.2 million, respectively, of which $.9 million and $(.8) million, respectively, represented an unrealized gain (loss). For the six months ended June 30, 2019 and 2018, this included a net gain of $5.2 million and $2.7 million, respectively, of which $3.9 million and $(.4) million, respectively, represented an unrealized gain (loss).
Fair Value Disclosures:
Unless otherwise described below, short-term financial instruments and receivables are carried at amounts which approximate their fair values based on their highly-liquid nature, short-term maturities and/or expected interest rates for similar instruments.
