KATE SPADE LLC
TO EXPLORE STRATEGIC ALTERNATIVES


New York, NY, September 16, 2005 - Kate Spade LLC announced today, that in mutual agreement with The Neiman Marcus Group, Inc., it has begun exploring various strategic alternatives. Kate Spade stated that these alternatives could include the possible sale of Kate Spade LLC, but that there could be no assurance that this process will result in any specific transaction. The Neiman Marcus Group has owned 56% of Kate Spade LLC since 1999 when it purchased a majority stake from Alex Noel Inc.

"At this stage in our growth, it makes good business sense for the company to explore all options available," said Andy Spade, CEO and Creative Director of Kate Spade LLC. "We are very excited and optimistic about the future of Kate Spade."

Since its founding in 1993, Kate Spade LLC has grown into a company that makes handbags, stationery, shoes, glasses, books and a home collection. There are currently 20 boutiques in the United States and 9 in Asia.

The Neiman Marcus Group, Inc. (NYSE: NMG.A, NMG.B) (the "Company") operations include the Specialty Retail Stores segment and the Direct Marketing segment. The Specialty Retail Stores segment consists primarily of Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman stores.
