THE NEIMAN MARCUS GROUP EXPLORING
STRATEGIC ALTERNATIVES

DALLAS, Texas, March 16, 2005 - The Neiman Marcus Group, Inc. (NYSE: NMG.A, NMG.B) announced today that it is exploring various strategic alternatives to enhance shareholder value, including the possible sale of the Company. The Company stated that there could be no assurance that this process will result in any specific transaction.

The Company also stated that it does not expect to disclose developments with respect to the exploration of strategic alternatives unless and until its Board of Directors has approved a definitive transaction. The Neiman Marcus Group has retained Goldman Sachs & Co. as its financial advisor to assist in this effort.

The Neiman Marcus Group, Inc. operations include the Specialty Retail Stores segment and the Direct Marketing segment. The Specialty Retail segment consists primarily of Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman stores. The Direct Marketing segment conducts both print catalog and online operations under the Neiman Marcus, Horchow and Bergdorf Goodman brand names.
