Explanation of Responses:
1. Grant of stock options to Mr. Novich exempt under Rule 16b-3(d), pursuant to
the Ryerson Tull 2002 Incentive Stock Plan, includes the right to have shares
withheld to satisfy tax withholding obligations.  127,050 shares become
exercisable on 1/22/04; 1
30,900 shares become exercisable on 1/22/05; and 127,050 shares become
exercisable on 1/22/06.
