SMART COMMUNICATIONS INC.’S FRANCHISE EXTENDED
FOR TWENTY FIVE (25) YEARS UNDER REPUBLIC ACT NO. 10926

MANILA, Philippines, — 3rd May 2017 – PLDT Inc. (“PLDT”) (PSE: TEL) (NYSE: PHI) announced today that the franchise granted to Smart Communications, Inc. (“Smart”) has been extended for twenty five (25) years under Republic Act No. 10926 which was signed into law by the President of the Republic on 21 April 2017. PLDT was formally notified today of the approval of the law by the Office of the President.

The said franchise law, which effectively extends Smart’s franchise until 2042, will take effect fifteen (15) days after publication in the Official Gazette or a newspaper of general circulation.

Smart will cause the franchise law to be published in a newspaper of general circulation.
