Subsequent Events On October 10, 2017, the Company announced its intention to separately spin off the Homes and Global Distribution business and the Transportation Systems business into two stand-alone, publicly-traded companies. The planned separation transactions are intended to be tax-free spins to Company shareowners for U.S. federal income tax purposes and are expected to be completed by the end of 2018. On October 10, 2017, the Company also announced that it is realigning the Smart Energy business unit from the Home and Building Technologies segment to the Performance Materials and Technologies segment. The Company intends to report its financial performance based on this realignment effective with the reporting of results for full year 2017 in its Annual Report on Form 10-K. This realignment will have no impact on the Company’s historical consolidated financial position, results of operations or cash flows.
