Note 19. Business Combinations

During the first quarter of fiscal 2012, the Company purchased certain assets and assumed certain liabilities of Modelware, Inc., a privately-held company that provides Packet Processing solutions in communications equipment, and Sarance Technologies, Inc., a privately-held company that develops Ethernet and Interlaken Intellectual Property (IP) solutions for the logic integrated circuits (IC) landscape. Both acquisitions align with Xilinx’s strategy for accelerating market growth and meet the increasing demand from our wired communications customers to offer application specific IP. These acquisitions were accounted for under the purchase method of accounting. The aggregate financial impact of these acquisitions was not material to the Company.
