Explanatory Note: This Current Report on Form 8-K/A is being filed to amend and restate Item 8.01 to the Current Report on Form 8-K initially filed by American National Bankshares Inc. with the Securities and Exchange Commission on May 21, 2019 (the "Original Filing"). The Company is filing this Current Report on Form 8-K/A to correct the record and payable dates of the declared dividend described in the body of Item 8.01 of the Original Filing. The dates were correctly described in the press release that was attached as Exhibit 99.1 to the Original Filing. No other changes are being made to the Original Filing.

Item 8.01 Other Events

On May 21, 2019, American National Bankshares Inc. declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.25 per share of common stock. The dividend is payable June 21, 2019, to shareholders of record on June 7, 2019.
