FirstGroup plc and Laidlaw International, Inc. Receive Hart-Scott-Rodino Request for
Additional Information

NAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS, May 1, 2007 – FirstGroup plc (LSE: FGP) and Laidlaw International, Inc. (NYSE: LI) jointly announced today that they have received a request for additional information from the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice regarding the proposed merger between the two companies, focused on student transportation. The information request was issued under notification requirements of the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, as amended.

The effect of the second request is to extend the waiting period imposed by the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act until 30 days after FirstGroup and Laidlaw have substantially complied with the second request, unless the period is extended voluntarily by the parties or terminated sooner by the DOJ. The companies intend to cooperate fully and respond expeditiously to the DOJ.
