SOUTHWESTERN ENERGY DECLARES TWO-FOR-ONE STOCK SPLIT

 

Houston, Texas - May 11, 2005...Southwestern Energy Company (NYSE: SWN) today announced that at the company's annual meeting today its shareholders approved an amendment to the company's articles of incorporation to increase the number of authorized common shares from 75 million shares to 220 million shares and that its Board of Directors has declared a two-for-one stock split. The Board of Directors established May 20, 2005 as the record date and June 3, 2005 as the date upon which the additional shares will be distributed to shareholders.

"The approval of our shareholders of all the proposals presented at the annual meeting reflects their continuing confidence that Southwestern's strategy will deliver value for our shareholders," stated Harold M. Korell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Southwestern. "Our operational results in our E&P business over the past few years have been outstanding, thanks to our creative people and our focus on adding value for each dollar we invest.
