EARNINGS PER SHAREBasic EPS is computed based upon the weighted average number of common shares outstanding during each period. Diluted EPS is computed on the basis of the weighted average number of common shares outstanding plus the potential dilutive effect of certain share-based compensation awards as if they were converted into outstanding common shares. The dilutive effect of unvested RSU and performance share awards is calculated using the treasury stock method. RSU and performance share awards are included in basic weighted average common shares outstanding as of the date that all necessary vesting conditions have been satisfied. There were no antidilutive share awards excluded from the computation of diluted EPS for the three and nine months ended September 30, 2021 and the three months ended September 30, 2020. For the nine months ended September 30, 2020, there were 52,747 antidilutive share awards excluded from the EPS computation, as their impact would have been antidilutive. Antidilutive shares pertained to a purchase option extended to underwriters in connection with Eversource’s common share issuance on June 15, 2020.
