Election of Chief Operating Officer

On May 13, 2008, the Board of Trustees of Northeast Utilities (NU) elected Leon J. Olivier Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of NU.

Mr. Olivier is 59 years old. He will hold this position until the next annual election of officers and until his successor is elected. Prior to this election, he held various senior positions at NU, including Executive Vice President-Operations (2007-May 13, 2008); Executive Vice President (2005-2007); and President Transmission Group (2005). Since January 2007 he has also been Chief Executive Officer of NU’s principal operating companies, The Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P), Public Service Company of New Hampshire, Western Massachusetts Electric Company and Yankee Gas Services Company, and holds various senior management positions with several other of NU’s direct and indirect subsidiaries. He was President and Chief Operating Officer of CL&P from September 2001 to January 2005. There is no family relationship between Mr. Olivier and any Trustee, Director or executive officer of NU or any o f its subsidiaries.
