 Other Intangible Assets
Dominion's and Virginia Power's other intangible assets are subject to amortization over their estimated useful lives. Dominion's amortization expense for intangible assets was $72 million, $82 million and $78 million for 2013, 2012 and 2011, respectively. In 2013, Dominion acquired $81 million of intangible assets, primarily representing software, with an estimated weighted-average amortization period of approximately 10 years. Amortization expense for Virginia Power's intangible assets was $22 million for 2013, 2012, and 2011. In 2013, Virginia Power acquired $14 million of intangible assets, primarily representing software, with an estimated weighted-average amortization period of 5 years.
