(e)        On January 7, 2009, the Leadership Development and Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors of Sun Microsystems, Inc. (the "Company") approved the acceleration of payment of a retention bonus in the amount of $325,000 to Peter Ryan, Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Services, which was scheduled to be paid in July 2009 pursuant to Mr. Ryan's letter agreement with the Company.
