1
The Perfect Home Notes are carried at cost, which approximates fair value. The Company periodically reviews the carrying amount utilizing company-specific transactions or changes in Perfect Home’s financial performance to determine if the Notes are impaired. On December 5, 2017, Perfect Home entered into an agreement with a third party to obtain alternative sources of senior debt financing. In light of the additional financing obtained by Perfect Home and the Company's subordinated security interest in the assets of Perfect Home, which consists primarily of outstanding loans receivable, merchandise inventory and cash, the Company estimated that the carrying amount of its Perfect Home notes approximates fair value and, therefore, no impairment was considered to have occurred as of March 31, 2018.
2
The fair value of fixed-rate long-term debt is estimated using the present value of underlying cash flows discounted at a current market yield for similar instruments. The carrying amount of fixed-rate long-term debt was $265.0 million at March 31, 2018 and December 31, 2017, respectively.
