STAGE STORES TO PRESENT AT THE COWEN AND COMPANY 5^THANNUAL CONSUMER CONFERENCE

HOUSTON, TX, January 5, 2007 - Stage Stores, Inc. (NYSE: SSI) announced today that it will make a presentation at the Cowen and Company 5^th Annual Consumer Conference on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The conference is being held at The Westin New York at Times Square in New York City.
