Fund Manager´s Comments

Global equity markets registered outstanding returns during November 2023. The MSCI World Index and the MSCI Emerging Markets Index increased 9.2% and 7.9%, respectively, during the month. Both the Federal Reserve and the Bank of England maintained unchanged their reference interest rates at a range of 5.25% - 5.50% and at 5.25%, respectively; however, now most analysts’ think that interest rates have likely peaked, and that major central banks could lower them as soon as during the first quarter of 2024, driving the positive performance of global equity markets. The DJIA and the S&P 500 increased 8.8% and 8.9%, respectively, while the yield on the 10-year Treasury note decreased 60 basis points to 4.33% and the U.S. dollar depreciated 3.0% (measured by the DXY Index4) during November 2023. In Mexico, the MSCI Mexico Index registered a strong increase of 15.4% and the Mexican peso appreciated 3.8% during the month, to Ps. $17.38, whereas the Fund’s NAV increased 13.9%, underperforming its benchmark.

In local news, Mexico´s Central Bank (“Banxico”) maintained unchanged its overnight interest rate at 11.25%. Official GDP for the third quarter of 2023 registered an annual growth of 3.3%, accumulating eight consecutive quarters of growth. The International Monetary Fund renewed Mexico´s two-year Flexible Credit Line (“FCL”), highlighting that the solid fundamentals of Mexico´s macroeconomic policies and institutional framework has contributed to economic stability, while recognizing that Mexican economic growth is robust, monetary policy is focused on containing inflationary pressures and that fiscal policy has kept public debt on a sustainable path. Considering the balance of risks and the commitment to maintain economic stability, Mexico decided to decrease the amount of the FCL to $35 billion, from $50 billion, as part of Mexico´s strategy to exit the FCL in an orderly and gradually manner.
