Note 14: Other–Net, (Income) Expense

Other–net, (income) expense consisted of the following:

Other–net, (income) expense was an expense of $31.3 million and income of $509.8 million for the third quarter and the first nine months of 2013, respectively. Comparisons to the same periods in 2012 are largely affected by income of $495.4 million and $787.8 million recognized in the first quarter of 2013 and the third quarter of 2012, respectively, related to the termination of the exenatide collaboration with Amylin.
