Accounting Policies, Interim Financial Statements and Basis of Presentation
In the opinion of the management of KCS, the accompanying unaudited consolidated financial statements contain all adjustments necessary for a fair presentation of the results for interim periods. All adjustments made were of a normal and recurring nature. Certain information and footnote disclosure normally included in financial statements prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP have been condensed or omitted. These consolidated financial statements should be read in conjunction with the consolidated financial statements and accompanying notes included in the Company’s Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2011. The results of operations for the three and six months ended June 30, 2012, are not necessarily indicative of the results to be expected for the full year ending December 31, 2012. Certain prior year amounts have been reclassified to conform to the current year presentation.
Effective January 1, 2012, the Company adopted, on a retrospective basis, the new accounting guidance on the presentation of comprehensive income. As a result of the adoption, the Company reports net income and other comprehensive income in two separate consecutive statements.
