REDEEMABLE NONCONTROLLING INTEREST

We formed the Ford Sollers joint venture with Sollers in October 2011 to operate in Russia. The value of the redeemable noncontrolling interest, reflecting redemption features embedded in the 50% equity interest in the joint venture that is held by Sollers, reported in the mezzanine section of our consolidated balance sheet at December 31,2018 and March 31, 2019 was $100 million and $135 million, respectively. The $35 million increase is reported in Income/(Loss) attributable to noncontrolling interests on our consolidated income statement. The redeemable noncontrolling interest became exercisable beginning on January 1, 2019, and Sollers exercised its option in March 2019. Subject to satisfaction of certain conditions, we will purchase the noncontrolling interest from Sollers in the second quarter of 2019 for $135 million.
