We can now offer clients the ability to license software on a subscription, or month-to-month basis, and allow clients to vary their software mix as their business and technology needs change, including the right to receive unspecified future software within designated product lines. Clients will determine the length and dollar value of their software license. This puts our clients in a much better position to capture greater value from their software investments. In accordance with GAAP, product revenue under the new licensing arrangements is recognized ratably over the term of the agreement. Under the old Business Model, GAAP required that the product revenue be recognized up front. The portion of the product revenue that is not yet recognized into revenue is recorded to the Company's balance sheet as residual value (also known as Deferred Revenue). The residual value will provide a stable stream of future revenue, as it will be amortized into revenue over the life of the contract. This difference in accounting treatment initially results in lower reported revenue and earnings. The new Business Model also benefits our investors by building residual value, which creates a more visible and predictable future revenue stream. This reduces the volatility of quarterly revenue and earnings, providing a more meaningful way to measure operating performance.
