On December 18, 2009, the San Juan Basin Royalty Trust (the “Trust”) issued a press release, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1, announcing, among other things, a monthly cash distribution to the holders of its units of beneficial interest of $5,185,693.22 , or $0.111260 per unit, based principally upon production during the month of October 2009.

Declares Monthly Cash Distribution

FORT WORTH, Texas, December 18, 2009 — Compass Bank, as Trustee of the San Juan Basin Royalty Trust (NYSE:SJT), today declared a monthly cash distribution to the holders of its units of beneficial interest of $5,185,693.22 or $0.111260 per unit, based principally upon production during the month of October 2009. The distribution for December also includes $643,512 in granted audit exceptions and $87,445 in interest on late payment of gross proceeds. The distribution is payable January 15, 2010, to Unit holders of record as of December 31, 2009.

Gas production for the properties from which the royalty was carved (the “Underlying Properties”) totaled approximately 3,122,972 Mcf (3,405,871 MMBtu). Dividing revenues by production volume yielded an average gas price for October 2009 of $4.10 per Mcf ($3.76 per MMBtu) as compared to $2.95 per Mcf ($2.71 per MMBtu) for September 2009. The average gas price may vary from the posted index price for the San Juan Basin. The index price is a gross sales price, and the revenues used in the calculation of average gas prices are net of transportation, processing and gathering costs. Furthermore, the distribution to the Trust in any given month may include significant volume adjustments for sales in prior months that reflect pricing for those prior months. Capital costs for the month were $1,719,715. Lease operating expenses were $3,288,898 and taxes were $1,199,224.
