SHAREOWNER'S EQUITY	SHAREOWNER’S EQUITYPLC owns all of the 2,000 shares of non-voting preferred stock issued by the Company’s subsidiary, Protective Life and Annuity Insurance Company (“PLAIC”). The stock pays, when and if declared, noncumulative participating dividends to the extent PLAIC’s statutory earnings for the immediately preceding fiscal year exceeded $1.0 million. In 2019, 2018, and 2017, PLAIC paid no dividends to PLC on its preferred stock.

The entire disclosure for shareholders' equity comprised of portions attributable to the parent entity and noncontrolling interest, including other comprehensive income. Includes, but is not limited to, balances of common stock, preferred stock, additional paid-in capital, other capital and retained earnings, accumulated balance for each classification of other comprehensive income and amount of comprehensive income.
