The Corporation conducts a portion of its business from leased facilities and leases certain equipment. Rental expense for leased properties and equipment amounted to $80 million, $79 million and $89 million in 2016, 2015 and 2014, respectively. Lease termination charges included in rental expense were approximately $2 million and $10 million in 2016 and 2014, respectively. No lease termination charges were included in rent expense in 2015. As of December 31, 2016, future minimum rental payments under operating leases were as follows:
