SMTEK INTERNATIONAL REPORTS
FIRST-QUARTER FISCAL 2005 RESULTS

 

Moorpark, Calif.–October 12, 2004–SMTEK International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMTI) reported financial results for fiscal 2005 first quarter ended September 30, 2004.

 

Revenues for the quarter rose to $29.9 million from $20.7 million a year ago.  Net income for the quarter was $1.34 million, or 45 cents per diluted share on 3,001,000 average shares.  In the first quarter of last year, net income of $1.31 million, or 56 cents per diluted share on 2,362,000 average shares, included other income consisting primarily of a gain of $817,000, or 35 cents a share, related to early extinguishment of debt.

 

Gross profit rose to $3.66 million versus $2.69 million in the first quarter last year.  Gross margin for the quarter was 12.2%, compared to 13.0% a year ago.  The fluctuation in gross margin was related primarily to product mix.  Operating income was $1.65 million, or 5.5% of revenues, compared to $658,000, or 3.2% of revenues, for the first quarter last year.
