FIRST-QUARTER FISCAL 2005 RESULTS

Moorpark, Calif.–October 12, 2004–SMTEK International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMTI) reported financial results for fiscal 2005 first quarter ended September 30, 2004.

Revenues for the quarter rose to $29.9 million from $20.7 million a year ago.  Net income for the quarter was $1.34 million, or 45 cents per diluted share on 3,001,000 average shares.  In the first quarter of last year, net income of $1.31 million, or 56 cents per diluted share on 2,362,000 average shares, included other income consisting primarily of a gain of $817,000, or 35 cents a share, related to early extinguishment of debt.
