Corning’s amortized intangible assets are primarily related to the Optical Communications and Life Sciences segments.  The net carrying amount of intangible assets decreased during the first six months of 2014, primarily due to amortization of $16 million, offset by a small acquisition and foreign currency translation adjustments.

Amortization expense related to these intangible assets is estimated to be $34 million for 2014, $33 million for 2015 and $32 million annually from 2016 to 2019.
