Comprehensive income (loss) consists of net income (loss) and other gains and losses affecting shareholders’ investment and pension/postretirement benefit (OPEB) liabilities that, under GAAP, are excluded from net loss.

As a result of the pension settlement accounting discussed in Note 15, the Frontier Communications Pension Plan (the Pension Plan) was remeasured as of March 31, 2017.  Frontier recorded a remeasurement charge of $48 million to Other Comprehensive Income primarily due to the increase in the market value of the assets after remeasurement.  The discount rate after remeasurement remained 4.10% at March 31, 2017. Additionally, the Company recorded a pension settlement charge of $43 million to Other Comprehesive Income.  Refer to Note 15 for details about the settlement accounting.
