Due to unforseen difficulties encountered in accumulating certain financial
information, there has been a delay in the completion of the Company's quarterly
financial statements. Without this information, the Company was unable to
finalize its financial data by the required filing deadline without unreasonable
effort and expense.

The following is an excerpt from the Company's press release dated August 2,
2000:

"IMCO Recycling, Inc. today reported second quarter 2000 net earnings of $1.5
million or $0.10 per diluted common share. In June the company said that it
expected net earnings for the second quarter to be in the range of $0.10 per
share. IMCO Recycling's net earnings in the second quarter of 1999 were $5.5
million or $0.33 per share."
