On July 6, 2000, Consumers Energy Company, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy Corporation, issued a press release announcing that it filed an application with the Michigan Public Service Commission (the "MPSC") to begin the securitization process for approximately $473 million in qualified costs, in accordance with the State of Michigan's new electric industry restructuring and securitization laws. The initial public hearing on this application will be held on July 17, 2000 as a prehearing conference.
