ATTACHMENT PAGE TO FORM 12b-25 CHAPARRAL RESOURCES, INC. PART III - NARRATIVE As of September 30, 2002, Registrant owns an interest in oil and gas properties in a foreign country through a subsidiary, which has a 60% interest in a foreign entity that owns the interest in the oil and gas properties. The Registrant has been advised that delays have been encountered in obtaining certain information that may affect the completion of the financial information for such entities. Therefore, the Registrant is unable to obtain all of the required financial information for the nine months ended September 30, 2002, in order for the Registrant's Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q to be filed within the prescribed time period. PART IV - OTHER INFORMATION (3) Registrant will report net income between $2.1 million and $2.2 million for the three months ended September 30, 2002, compared to a net loss of $5.77 million for the three months ended September 30, 2001. The Registrant's net income for the current period is primarily due to lower financing costs on its debt obligations and improved operational results from the Karakuduk Field. In May 2002, the Registrant increased its ownership stake in its foreign joint venture from 50% to 60%, establishing a majority controlling interest in the project. Therefore, the Registrant's financial statements have been consolidated with the foreign joint venture's operations on a retroactive basis to January 1, 2002. The Registrant previously accounted for its 50% investment in the foreign joint venture using the equity method of accounting, which is reflected in the Registrant's financial statements for periods prior to 2002.
