Income Tax Disclosure [Abstract]
Income Taxes Income Taxes
The Company calculates its year-to-date (provision for) benefit from income taxes by applying the estimated annual effective tax rate ("AETR") to year-to-date income or loss from operations before income taxes and adjusts for discrete tax items recorded in the period. During the three and six months ended July 31, 2021, the Company recorded a (provision for) benefit from income taxes of $(0.3) million and $(0.5) million, respectively. During the three and six months ended July 31, 2020, the Company recorded a (provision for) benefit from income taxes of $(0.3) million and $(0.6) million, respectively.
The Company's effective tax rate generally differs from the U.S. federal statutory tax rate primarily due to a full valuation allowance related to the Company's net deferred tax assets in the U.S. and in certain foreign jurisdictions, partially offset by the
foreign tax rate differential on non-U.S. income. The Company regularly evaluates the realizability of its deferred tax assets and establishes a valuation allowance on a jurisdictional basis if it is more likely than not that some or all the deferred tax assets will not be realized. In making such a determination, the Company considers all available positive and negative evidence, including future reversals of existing taxable temporary differences, projected future taxable income, loss carryback and tax-planning strategies. Generally, more weight is given to objectively verifiable evidence, such as the cumulative loss in recent years, as a significant piece of negative evidence to overcome. To the extent sufficient positive evidence becomes available, a portion of the valuation allowance against certain net deferred tax assets could be released in the future and would result in a non-cash income tax benefit in the period of release.
