The $48.5 million addition in goodwill within DDS is associated with the acquisition of Pharmatek Laboratories, Inc. ("Pharmatek") in September 2016 and the preliminary fair value allocation. The Company is in the process of finalizing the valuation of the individual assets acquired and liabilities assumed. The goodwill addition reported above is based on management's best current estimate. The fair value allocation is expected to be completed upon finalization of an independent appraisal over the next several months, but no later than one year from the acquisition date.

The $4.5 million addition in goodwill within Softgel Technologies is associated with the acquisition of Accucaps Industries Limited ("Accucaps") in February 2017 and the preliminary fair value allocation. The Company is in the process of finalizing the valuation of the individual assets acquired and liabilities assumed. The goodwill addition reported above is based on management's best current estimate. The fair value allocation is expected to be completed upon finalization of an independent appraisal over the next several months, but no later than one year from the acquisition date.

No goodwill impairment charge was required during the current or comparable prior year period. When required, impairment charges are recorded within the consolidated statements of operations as impairment charges and (gain)/loss on sale of assets.
