Inaddition,incalculatingDistributableEarnings,NetIncome(inaccordancewithU.S.GAAP)isadjustedtoexcludeunrealizedgainsorlossesonresidentialMSRs,heldatfairvalue.TheCompanytreatsitscommercialMSRsandresidentialMSRsastwoseparateclassesbasedonthenatureoftheunderlyingmortgagesandthetreatmentoftheseassetsastwoseparatepoolsforriskmanagementpurposes.ServicingrightsrelatingtotheCompany’ssmallbusinesscommercialbusinessareaccountedforunderASC860,TransferandServicing,whiletheCompany’sresidentialMSRsareaccountedforunderthefairvalueoptionunderASC825,FinancialInstruments.IncalculatingDistributableEarnings,theCompanydoesnotexcluderealizedgainsorlossesoneithercommercialMSRsorresidentialMSRs,heldatfairvalue,asservicingincomeisafundamentalpartofReadyCapital’sbusinessandisanindicatoroftheongoingperformance.ToqualifyasaREIT,theCompanymustdistributetoitsstockholderseachcalendaryearatleast90%ofitsREITtaxableincome(includingcertainitemsofnon-cashincome),determinedwithoutregardtothedeductionfordividendspaidandexcludingnetcapitalgain.Therearecertainitems,includingnetincomegeneratedfromthecreationofMSRs,thatareincludedindistributableearningsbutarenotincludedinthecalculationofthecurrentyear’staxableincome.Thesedifferencesmayresultincertainitemsthatarerecognizedinthecurrentperiod’scalculationofdistributableearningsnotbeingincludedintaxableincome,andthusnotsubjecttotheREITdividenddistributionrequirementuntilfutureyears.
