Reduction in Workforce
On June 16, 2016, the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Company approved a strategic restructuring of the Company to eliminate a portion of the Company’s workforce in order to preserve the Company’s resources as it determines future strategic plans.
As part of this strategic restructuring, the Company will eliminate 14 positions across the organization, representing approximately 70% of the Company’s workforce. The Company expects the restructuring to be substantially complete in the third quarter of 2016. The Company incurred total restructuring costs of approximately $0.6 million, which includes severance, benefits and related costs in accordance with the Company's severance benefit plan. As the Company determined the severance was a continuation of a benefit arrangement with employees, the Company recorded the total $0.6 million of restructuring charges as $0.1 million in general and administrative expenses and $0.5 million in research and development expenses within the Condensed Statement of Operations and Comprehensive Loss for the three and six months ended June 30, 2016.
