OCEAN RIG UDW INC. ANNOUNCES AUTHORIZATION OF AN UP TO $150 MILLION STOCK REPURCHASE PLAN

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands – April 16, 2018 - Ocean Rig UDW Inc. (NASDAQ:ORIG) ("Ocean Rig" or the "Company"), a global provider of offshore deepwater drilling services, announced today that its Board of Directors (the "Board") has authorized a stock repurchase plan (the "Plan"), under which the Company may repurchase up to $150 million of its outstanding common shares for a period of 12 months from a date to be determined by the Board.  Ocean Rig may repurchase shares in privately negotiated or open-market purchases in accordance with applicable securities laws and regulations, including Rule 10b-18 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, as amended. Commencement of the Plan will be at the discretion of and subject to the approval of the Company's Board of Directors. Upon commencement any repurchases will depend upon a variety of factors, including market conditions, regulatory requirements and other corporate considerations.  The Company will not be obligated under the program to repurchase any shares.  Due to applicable securities laws, the Company's repurchase of shares will not begin until after the release of the Company's financial statements for the first quarter ending March 31, 2018, which is expected to be within May of 2018. The repurchase program may be suspended or discontinued at any time. The Company expects to finance the stock purchases with existing cash balances.
