Ecopetrol S.A. provides further information on the collateral for the syndicated loan with local banks


Ecopetrol S.A. supplemented the information published on August 12, 2009 relating to the pledges it granted for the COP$2.2 trillion syndicated loan it entered into with a syndicate of local banks on May 26, 2009, as follows:

Shares of Oleoducto Central S.A., Refinería de Cartagena S.A. and Polipropileno del Caribe S.A. are not listed in any stock exchange.  Therefore, pursuant to the first paragraph of Article Four of Decree 2360 of 1993, the value of the collateral related to these companies was determined based on the audited financial statements of the company as of December 31, 2008.

Ecopetrol is Colombia’s largest integrated oil company and is among the top 40 oil companies in the world and the four largest oil companies in Latin America. Besides Colombia, where it accounts for 60% of total production, the Company is involved in exploration and production activities in Brazil, Peru and the United States (Gulf of Mexico). Ecopetrol has the principal refinery in Colombia, most of the network of oil and multiple purpose pipelines in the country, and it is considerably increasing its participation in biofuels.
