Contributions to the U.S. pension plans are expected to be approximately $330 million during 2011, of which $326 million was contributed in the nine months ended September 30, 2011. Contributions to the international plans are expected to range from $75 million to $90 million in 2011, of which $62 million was contributed in the nine months ended September 30, 2011.

 

The expense attributed to defined contribution plans in the U.S. was $47 million and $44 million for the three months ended September 30, 2011 and 2010, respectively, and $133 million and $139 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2011 and 2010, respectively.
